The Journey of Warm Kiwi NZ

A Celebration of Women and Motorcycles
Warm Kiwi NZ began its inspiring journey in 2007, founded by Lyn—a passionate motorcyclist who felt left out when her husband went to the Cold Kiwi rally in Waiouru. Not keen on roughing it in freezing temperatures, she dreamed of a warm, welcoming weekend tailored for women who love to ride. Her vision sparked what is now one of New Zealand’s most loved motorcycle events for women.

The Founders and Their Vision
Lyn’s motivation was simple yet powerful: she wanted to create a space where women motorcyclists could indulge in their passion without compromising on comfort. The concept quickly took off, evolving into an annual motorcycle weekend filled with riding, friendship, and relaxing hot pools. In 2010, Lyn met fellow motorcyclist Chrissy Dougherty, who was running Bay Ride Babes, a Tauranga-based ladies’ motorcycle club. Chrissy picked up the baton, bringing fresh energy and broader reach to the Warm Kiwi event. Together, they laid the foundation for what is now a staple on the women’s motorcycle calendar in NZ.

Women Giving Back to Women
In 2021, the current organisers introduced a new theme: “Women Giving Back to Women”—infusing the event with deeper purpose and meaning. At the heart of this initiative is the Warm Kiwi charity auction, where every item is donated and all proceeds go to the local women’s refuge. Thanks to the generosity of our amazing sponsors, this philanthropic aspect has become a beloved tradition and a powerful way to uplift women in need across Aotearoa.

The Heart of Warm Kiwi NZ
Warm Kiwi NZ is more than just a motorcycle rally—it’s a celebration of women, empowerment, and connection. These weekends offer a unique blend of adventure, relaxation, and philanthropy, creating unforgettable memories. The ongoing charity work, particularly the women’s refuge auction, reflects the true heart of the event—women supporting women. It’s a shining example of what’s possible when passion and purpose come together.

Looking Ahead
As Warm Kiwi NZ continues to grow, the commitment to inclusivity, camaraderie, and community giving remains steadfast. The organisers aim to ensure that every event is not only fun and memorable but also meaningful. Warm Kiwi stands as a proud symbol of what women motorcyclists in NZ can achieve together. What began in 2007 has become a powerful annual tradition—celebrating women, motorcycles, and making a difference.
